Curriculum vitae
Luigi Cattivelli has a degree in Agricultural Science at the Catholic University of Piacenza (1986). Between 1987-1989 he was working at the Max Planck Institute of Cologne (Germany), in permanent position since 1991 at the Experimental Institute for Cereal Research Section of Fiorenzuola d’Arda (Italy) (an institute of the Agricultural Research Council –CRA- of Italy). From 1997 to 2003 LC has been professor of Plant Genetics at University of Verona (Italy), Faculty of Biotechnology. From 2005 to 2009 LC has been acting director of the CRA-Cereal Research Centre of Foggia and from 2010 LC is director of the CRA-Genomics Research Centre of Fiorenzuola d’Arda. LC is member of in the coordinating committee of the International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium (IWGSC) and the Italian representative in the research committee of the Wheat Initiative, an international organization for the coordination of wheat research supported by the G20 Agricultural Ministers. LC is member of the editorial board of “Plant Science” and of “Journal of Cereal Science”.

Current research interests
LC research activity has been focused on genetics and molecular biology of cereals (mainly barley and wheat), from plant breeding to gene cloning, QTL analysis and sequencing. Molecular markers are used to map agronomic traits, to develop a physical map of the wheat chromosome 5A, and to promote marker assisted breeding programs. Transcriptomics, functional genomics and bioinformatics approaches are currently used to investigate the functions of key genes involved in the expression of important agronomic traits.
