Current research interests
My work is mainly devoted to the genetic dissection of quantitative traits in barley, through genotypic and phenotypic analysis of mapping populations and germplasm collections. In particular, main research topics focus on several aspects of barley adaptation to the environment:
• tolerance to low temperatures (EU propject ExBarDiv; MIPAAF project Esplora)
• regulation of plant morphology and phenology (EU-MABDE, EU-ExBarDiv and EU-Whealbi)
• yield and yield components under Mediterranean conditions (EU-MABDE)
• adaptation to climate changes (EU-ClimBar)
• resistance to seed borne pathogens(EU-ExBarDiv; MIPAAF-Esplora)
• plant biomass and straw-related traits (MIPAAF-Biomassval)
• root development (MIPAAF-Esplora)
I am also fascinated by barley population genomics, and how genetic and genomic resources and molecular information can help us in deciphering barley diversity and evolution. As an outcome from all these studies, I am interested in the development of molecular markers for barley assisted breeding.
