Curriculum vitae
Degree in Agricultural Sciences at the Catholic University of Piacenza (1991). In 1996 I obtained a permanent position at the Experimental Institute for Cereal Research, initially at the Section of Vercelli (rice) and then (2000) at the Section of Fiorenzuola d’Arda (barley), which now is the “Genomics Research Centre” (GPG) of the Agriculture Research Council (CRA). In 1999, I spent 9 months in the U.S.A. to study eco-physiological aspects of seed dormancy in red rice, with Dr. MA Cohn, Professor of Seed Biology, at the Dept. of Plant Pathology and Plant Physiology, LSU (Agricultural Center), Baton Rouge, LA. At the CRA, I have developed studies on: (i)- the biology of seed dormancy, using red rice as a model species, (ii)- biochemical, genetic and functional characteristics of pigmented rices (iii)– the malting quality of barley, (iv)- b-glucan dynamics in the germinating barley grain and (v)- the use of b-glucan in products for human consumption. I also worked on (vi)– the breeding of barley and rice.

Current research interests
At present, I am continuing my research on the physiology of seed dormancy, using red rice as a model species. I am also involved in the breeding of barley and rice for special uses, and in collaborations on other research topics with colleagues at the Genomics Research Centre.
